This paper session will include presentations of the following three papers:

Rona in the BX: Using TO to Cope with COVID-19
Presenter: Eva Lopez, EdD, John Jay College of Criminal Justice,
This paper asks the questions: What TO techniques are best suited to address the challenges of the pandemic in communities of struggle? How can we use TO to continue to help youth cope with the pandemic? Participants will be asked to brainstorm possibilities with the presenter.

Theatrical Interventions in the Imperative: On the Political Potential of the Impossible
Presenter: Rebecca Struch, University of California, Berkeley
This paper presentation examines theories of metaxis alongside an analysis of the performance Slave Rebellion Reenactment in order to suggest that ‘magical’ interventions deserve more careful consideration within Theatre of the Oppressed practice.

Augusto Boal and Jean-Marie Brohm: games for embodied liberation
Presenter: Amy Phillips, Grand Valley State University
This paper presents research on the liberatory engagement of the body in French sociologist and Freudo-Marxist Jean-Marie Brohm's critique of sport, which functions as a comparative case study alongside Augusto Boal’s return of games–and their emancipatory power–back to the people.
